Reading The Bible

So usually I just read through the stories, you know about Esther, Adam and Eve, Ruth, Daniel, Jonah, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, sure I know the stories pretty well, I get the important points and morals of the stories, but what about the lengthy stories and verses in between? I read those and forget what I have read the next day.

Then I get really annoyed with myself because I don't glean anything from what I have read. Last week at church we had Discipleship Week with the serious teens at church, one of the things we did was read a chapter a day and started a Bible Journal.

How it works is when we come across something in the Bible, as we have our devotions, that sticks out we wrote a note about that verse or verses. And guess what! What I wrote actually stuck with me.

So the point is if you struggle with remembering what you read in the Bible take notes and start a Bible Journal.

Gifts of the Holy Ghost

1Corinthians 12:4-10

4 Now there are Diversities of Gifts, but of the same Spirit.

5 And there are differences of Administrations, but of the same Lord.

6 And there are diversities of Operations, but it is the same God that works in all.

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

8 For to one is given by the Spirit the Word of Wisdom; to another the Word of Knowledge by the same Spirit;

9 To another Faith by the same Spirit; to another the Gifts of Healing by the same Spirit;

10 To another the working of Miracles; to another Prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another diverse kinds of Tongues; to another the Interpretation of Tongues

These verses are saying that God through the Holy Ghost gives us our own gifts, and we use them according to our personality. For example, I, a Sunday school teacher, have a hyper talkative personality; and I have mostly boys in my class. So allow them to be hyper when we songs, and involve them in the lessons, by asking them how they would have felt in certain situations. I have a gift for teaching, I am a Sunday School teacher, and I operate differently than others. This is what verses 4-7 are referring to.

Verses 8-10 are saying that you need the Holy Ghost to receive these Gifts of the Spirit.
